I.About
A “manmaking” university based on the tenets of Indian Culture as envisaged by Pujya Gurudev Pt Shriram Sharma Acharya , the founder of Shantikunj, Haridwar.
Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar is situated on the bank of Holy River Ganges and in the lap of sacred Himalayan region in Haripur Kalan, village on border of Haridwar, District Dehradun.
It is 7 km from Haridwar railway station on way to Dehradun-Rishikesh on Delhi Niti Pass Highway. It has a sprawling campus of 82 Acres Area.
Established by the Act of Uttaranchal Government 04, 2002 (no. 123/vidhai and sansadiya karya/2002), Dehradun on 11th April 2002.
Duly recognized by the University Grant Commission (U.G.C).
Sri Vedmata Gayatri Trust, a charitable spiritual body, head quarter being Shantikunj Haridwar (Uttaranchal) is taking care of all the expenses of this university.
Self- financed through people’s contribution and not by any grant from the State or the Central Government or UGC.
About Us
It is fully residential with provision for accommodation for about 1000 students.
The unique concept of Time donation “Samaydan’ is behind the functioning of this university. It may be from 3 months to 1 year or more on voluntary basis.
Only subsistence allowance is accepted by the employees to meet their daily needs and livelihood. However, the university provides free boarding & lodging electricity/water and free medical & educational facilities for children.
The teachers and professors of various universities in India and abroad offer their expertise, guidance and wisdom to the students.
The university has revived the Vedic ceremony of Gyan Diksha (Invocation) for the new students for the first time in India.
II.Genesis
Born out of a unique vision of the Chief Patron Vedmoorti Taponishtha Pt. Sriram Sharma Acharya, the University is an educational institution, which could mold its students into noble and enlightened human beings: selfless, warm-hearted, compassionate and kind individuals. Under the flagship of the mother institution Shantikunj as a part of Shri Ved Mata Gayatri Trust activities, a man-making spiritual academy & Head Quarter of All World Gayatri Pariwar, the foundation of the University was laid down in 1999. The vision became a reality in the month of April 2002, when the University was duly recognized by the University Grants Commission. Unlike most, it caters to all aspects of its students’ lives—academic as well as cultural, spiritual, and social.
Along with an excellent domain focused approach, sectoral excellence and a widely knitted outreach connect, we try to build individuals with Spirituality as their locus of control and help them excel as holistic people through
our meticulously designed curriculums and dedicated faculty. The lush green 84 acres campus located at the lap of Great Himalayas and the bank of river Ganga, offers a truly world class spiritual ambience for developing talent of very highest caliber.
Within a short span of time since its inception in 2002, the University has taken rapid strides towards achieving its goals and has become a leader in imparting Contemporary Education (Shiksha) with Spiritual Wisdom (Vidya).
II.Vision & Mission Statement
Fifty years ago, Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya (Gurudev),scholar-saint and founder of Gayatri Pariwar,dreamt of a unique university that combined the precepts of practical knowledge (shiksha) and spiritual education (vidya) to create truly enlightened students. These students would be well rounded and holistically developed human beings to achieve the highest levels in all fields, and channelize all their efforts towards the goal of a divine value based society. They would follow a simple and spiritual lifestyle. They would also derive benefits from both state-of-the-art facilities and tested traditional methods.
The mission of DSVV is to unite contemporary education with spiritual training to cultivate well-rounded, competent and personally uplifted graduates who have a scientifically grounded understanding and experience of spiritual transformation and a powerful drive to use their gifts to promote the greater good of society.
The foundation was laid in 1999 under the flagship of the mother institution, Shantikunj, which is a spiritual academy and the head quarter of All World Gayatri Pariwar. In the month of January, 2002, the vision became a reality when the university was recognized by the University Grants Commission. Now, this university is truly the center of divine culture that Gurudev had imagined. Unlike most, it caters to all aspects of its students’ lives—academic as well as cultural, spiritual, and social. The ultimate objective of the students at DSVV is not mere bread winning but also molding themselves into responsible citizens for a developed and prosperous society. Students and teachers at DSVV are committed to this philosophy. They try to solve global problems through innovative methods. They keep alive the Vedic tradition, in which the students & teachers observe a healthy, simple lifestyle that keeps the focus on their cultural values. Yog, Yagya, Collective prayer and meditation are a part of their academic routine. Along with competence development, a DSVV student is also molded to be an excellent human being.
